Job Description
This role will best suit a dynamic individual with a passion for investment analysis and financial markets.Strong numerical modelling skills and attention to detail are key as well as a willingness matched with an ability to work hard. The successful individual will undertake comprehensive analysis and building of financial models reporting into the equity strategy.
Role
- Prepare and implement the online and offline marketing strategy for the centre.
- Show full commitment and understanding to the house’s investment philosophy in equity research.
- Participate in the identification of potential investment opportunities, using available and any appropriate equity research ranking and screening techniques.
- Conduct detailed fundamental analysis on potential high conviction investment opportunities, as directed.
- Formulate and then present investment thesis to broad investment team soliciting feedback on the investment recommendation.
- Maintain industry knowledge for broad industry group companies allocated.
- Monitor investment case of current investments and communicate on material news flow.
- Conduct quarterly sector reviews including a concise recap of sector performance and key performance drivers of ‘winners and losers’ under coverage.
- Continuously strive to enhance and improve the equity research process.
- Represent and market this process both internally to peers and externally to clients, consultants etc.
- Influence the house’s overall research agenda by engaging highlighting areas of concern or areas of potential opportunity that require further investigation.
- Foster a healthy collaborative relationship between other members of the equity research team, Macro Economic Research, Portfolio Construction, Fixed Income and Portfolio Management.
- Contribute and ensure compliance to relevant governance, legislation and risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide on-going support and mentorship to other analysts (esp juniors) in the team as and when necessary
- Maintain a healthy rapport with the Head of Equities / other Senior Analysts within the broader investment team .
Qualification and Experience Required
- At least 5 years relevant work experience in the investment industry preferable
- Post Graduate Degree in economics, finance, statistics or actuarial science preferable
- MBA, CA(SA) or CFA, plus any other Regulatory qualification as per FSB
- Relevant experience analysing, modelling and performing equity valuations
- Strong quantitative and analytical ability, Strong understanding of financial products
