Job Description

Would be responsible for ensuring that end-users have reliable and efficient access to their desktop computers, laptops, and related peripherals.

Job Summary:

The Desktop Engineer is responsible for providing technical support, troubleshooting, and maintaining desktop computer systems and related hardware and software. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring end-users have a seamless and productive computing experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Desktop Support: Provide first and second-level support for hardware and software issues on desktops, laptops, and other end-user devices.

Hardware Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripheral devices. Perform hardware upgrades and replacements as necessary.

Software Support: Install, configure, and troubleshoot operating systems and software applications. Ensure software licenses are up to date and compliance with company policies.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues reported by end-users promptly and effectively. Escalate complex issues to higher-level IT support when necessary.

User Training: Conduct user training sessions to promote efficient use of desktop systems and software applications.

Security: Implement and enforce security protocols, including antivirus software, data encryption, and user access controls. Monitor for and respond to security threats or breaches.

Patch Management: Ensure that all desktop systems are up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates. Schedule and perform maintenance during non-business hours to minimize disruption.

Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of hardware and software configurations, support procedures, and user guides.

Inventory Management: Keep track of hardware and software inventory, including procurement and asset tracking. Order and replenish supplies as needed.

Remote Support: Provide remote support to remote or off-site users, troubleshoot issues remotely, and assist with VPN and remote access setup.

Collaboration: Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to ensure seamless integration and resolution of issues that may involve networking, servers, or other infrastructure components.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Desktop Engineer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS, Linux) and software applications.
  • Strong hardware/Software troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, TCP/IP, and DNS.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) are a plus.
  • Knowledge of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) principles is beneficial.
